Why Women are Coming in the Thousands to Get Plastic Surgery “Down There”

Why Women are Coming in the Thousands to Get Plastic Surgery “Down There”

shutterstock_186218576Does it sound like something too crazy to be true? It isn’t! One of 2016’s hottest trends in cosmetic surgery is the vaginal makeover (otherwise

known as a labiaplasty.) What’s involved in the process? In summary, reshaping the labia minora (inner lips) so that they don’t extend outward past the labia major (outer lips.) Sometimes, vaginal tightening and fat injections to the labia mayora are added at the same time.

Over the past few years, the plastic surgery procedure has spiked by nearly 50% – and the trend seems to keep going up. In fact, I have women in my office ask me about it just about every single day. A few years ago, I would maybe have one woman ask about it each month.

The Reason Behind the Increase in Vaginal Makeovers

Women with enlarged labia minor often feel uncomfortable in bed, swimsuits, and even yoga pants. Although it’s normal for the inner lip tissues to range between 2 to 10cm, most women wish they were much shorter. Being able to have it adjusted can make them feel more desirable, as well as comfortable in the clothes that they wear.

The Trend in Pubic Hair

With more and more women getting Brazillian waxes, the labia minor are much more noticeable. As women keep their hair shorter “down there,” they may start to feel uncomfortable with the exposed anatomy that isn’t covered up by the hair any longer. Thus, they have a minor little one-hour procedure done to make them look nice and tidy, and keep their labia minora tucked underneath the labia major.

Problems with Enlarged Labia

What is the purpose of having two folds of labia? The inner folds protect the vaginal opening. However, they are also very sensitive, because they are made of mucosal tissues. For some women, this means they may have painful intercourse, frequent yeast infections, or conditions linked to their vulva.

Some women also find that because of athletic activities, enlarged labia minora can become irritated, sore, and chafed – such as while running or riding a bike.

Is a Vaginal Plastic Surgery Safe?

Surveys have shown that over 90% of women that had a labiaplasty felt more comfortable with the way they looked than they did before. Plus, there was no research to show that any of those women experienced complications over the long-term after their procedure.

For women to feel insecure about physical features such as their labia minora is reason enough to seek out the care of a plastic surgeon. The procedure can easily be completed here in my El Paso office with little more than local anesthetic. But we need to make sure that it’s for you, not because of someone else that you’re having it done.

If you’ve never sat eyes on images of the Great Wall of Vagina, I highly recommend it. The cast images of over 400 vulvas can make women see just how unique each and every one of their bodies are, and get ideas as to what they want to change about themselves.

What You Need to Know About Getting a Bigger Butt

shutterstock_233906878If you’ve seen the news, it won’t come as a surprise that women all over the world are investing thousands of dollars to get a tush just like Kim Kardashian’s. In Miami, one woman spent over $10,000 to have a rear that resembled that of the socialite star. Before that, she was doing 300 squats a day! Ultimately, a Brazilian Butt Lift was her only option to get the round rear she wanted – so she went the surgical route.

During the procedure, doctors took four pounds of fat from other parts of her body, and injected them into her butt to add the fullness that she couldn’t get through daily workouts.

The Surge in Butt Lifts

This woman isn’t alone. The look for perfect curves and an enlarged backside isn’t going away anytime soon. Larger butts are on the rise – the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery said that there was an 86% increase from 2013 to 2014 in women getting butt augmentation treatments. 2016 doesn’t appear to be any different.

Leaving it All Up to Exercise

If the 30-day squat challenge isn’t making a difference in the contour of your backside, you might be wondering why the hard work is even worth it. It’s perfectly safe to squat your way to the right shape, but some people’s natural anatomy just doesn’t get them where they want to.

To get your butt to really “pop,” you also need to have the right balance of food that you consume. While exercise can make your butt healthy and muscular, it won’t add volume unless you’re combining the right types of exercise and nutrient intake.

Squats, donkey kicks, and lunges are all great glute exercises that can tone and lift. But genetics can’t be left out. If you were born with a great shaped butt, you probably won’t have to work very hard to get it to where you want it to be. Everyone else can work hard to tone and lift, but the shape might not pop out the way they wish it would.

Finally Taking Action

For women that decide to get “something done about it,” a butt augmentation along with an implant is an excellent choice. We can transfer fat from other parts of the body and enhance the area with an implant to add the right shape and size to your rear right where you want it.

It’s not just about volume – it’s about the shape. Going bigger isn’t always better, that’s why I stress to my patients to bring in photos of what they want their final results to look like. This is probably one of the very best ways I can ensure that we have the same image in mind. Then, we shape and contour the buttocks for the polished, round, lifted look that they’re set on having.

Getting the Right Help

The relationship of shape to size is vital, so it’s important to find a plastic surgeon with extensive experience in butt augmentation. As with breasts, the shape and curvature are extremely important. Otherwise you can end up with results that are worse than you even started with. Only a board-certified plastic surgeon is up to the task.

Maintaining Results

Before and After Brazilian Butt LiftOnce you’ve got the butt of your dreams, the story isn’t over. It’s still important for you to maintain a healthy body with diet and exercise. If you get a Brazilian Butt Lift, about 30% of the fat we transfer will be absorbed by the body. The fat that’s left will begin functioning as if it were naturally from that area – so if you gain weight because of a sedentary lifestyle or poor diet choices, those fat cells will grow.

A healthy lifestyle, along with the right plastic surgeon can get you the exact Hollywood butt you’ve been working so hard toward. Call my El Paso office to find out how we can make it a reality!

Why You Need a Date With Your Plastic Surgeon – 10 Years Later

shutterstock_342061073You schedule regular check-ups with your physician, maintenance appointments for your car, and even get a job review on an annual basis – but what kind of follow up care do your breast implants need?

It’s great that everything looks and feels wonderful – but the important thing is that you should schedule a date with your plastic surgeon about 10 years after your breast augmentation has been done. After all, things aren’t quite what they used to be when you had the surgery a decade or more ago. Here’s why:

Your Body Changes

Even if you still look fit, feel young, and haven’t gained or lost a significant amount of weight – your body is changing. Things begin to droop, sag, or stretch whether we like it or not, thanks to gravity. Some women may find that things appear a bit uneven or more sunken than they were when they had their breast implants placed several years prior. Even your opinion about your breast size or shape may have changed. It could be time for something different when it comes to the perfect fit for your changing body.

A Safety Check

It’s natural for things to wear out over time. Even if you have a “warranty” on your breast implants, you still need to monitor them on a regular basis. Things can happen, such as accidental ruptures or leakage. If some form of abnormal swelling or misshaped anomaly occurs, the manufacturer of the implant usually only covers the replacement of the implant for less than 10 years. After that, you’re on your own. It’s beneficial to have Dr. Agullo check everything to be sure things look and function the way they’re supposed to.

As a matter of fact, Dr. Agullo recommends that you follow up with him every 6 months after your breast implant procedure. Of course, this is included with your procedure and there are no additional fees.

Implant Have Evolved

You may have “outgrown” the type of implant that you had placed a decade ago, and be ready to change it out with something better. Newer generations of silicone implants now offer our patients with a wider range of options when it comes to their breast size, shape, and appearance. From changing the shape of your breast and giving you a more natural feel, to lower complication rates – it doesn’t hurt to weigh your options against the older type of implant you’ve had for so long.

It’s Just a Healthy Thing to Do

Before and After Breast AugmentationThere’s no strict rule as to how long you need to go between your breast implant follow ups, but Dr. Agullo recommends scheduling a “date” at our office at least every 6 months or so, but definitely after 10 years. We want to be sure you’re pleased with your results and that nothing has changed in regard to your implant integrity, body contour or aesthetic needs. It’s not that we’re going to encourage you to change them out with something newer – it’s that we need to make sure you’re healthy, confident, and that things aren’t wearing out.

Even if Dr. Agullo wasn’t the plastic surgeon who placed your implants, you’re still welcome to call our El Paso office to schedule a breast augmentation follow up. We’ll be more than happy to answer any questions that you may have!

To make an appointment, you can contact the office of Dr. Frank Agullo by calling (915) 590-7900 or by filling out our online contact form.

There’s a Smaller Gap Between Male and Female Cosmetic Surgery Than You Thought!

Surveys have shown that just over 1 out of 3 women would like to have some type of cosmetic surgery. That is, if cost wasn’t an issue. Surprisingly, 1 in 5 men said the exact same thing! Yet, the small gap between men and women who say they want plastic surgery and actually have it done is far wider. It seems that maybe men are a bit more hesitant to follow through with what they want when it comes to elective procedures. Women, on the other hand, are more likely to say yes!

Who is Actually Getting Treatment?

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons says that 9 out of 10 cosmetic procedures are completed on females. While women are following through with their cosmetic desires, then men aren’t (as they make up only 1 out of 10 patients.)

One of the reasons why we see this problem is because men frequently do not understand the benefits or accessibility to male-centered treatments. Some may not even realize what procedures are available. Yet if they knew the outstanding results that could be achieved, I think we would see more men than ever coming in for elective cosmetic procedures.

Highlighted Desires

When men are coming in, what are they having done? Some of the most common procedures we discuss or complete include:

Blepharoplasty

Before and After BlepharoplastyIt might be hard to say, but it’s actually a fairly common procedure – erasing the signs of sagging skin around the eyes. Just a little lift of the lower or upper eyelids can improve vision and add a youthful appearance.

Beard Transplants

If you’ve always had a baby-face or are unable to grow a beard, then a beard transplant is an excellent way to add a full face of hair! We individually transfer each hair follicle from the back of your scalp (where hair grows the thickest) to the face to add fullness to your thin (or nonexistent) beard.

Rhinoplasty

Getting a “nose job” isn’t just for women. Many men feel uncomfortable with their note’s size and shape. It may even interfere with the way they breath. Don’t try to man-up and “own” your nose if you aren’t happy with the way it looks. Do something about it! You might just be surprised to learn how many men actually have a rhinoplasty done. I can even show you some before and after shots here in my office.

Liposuction

If you’ve worked hard to lose weight, leftover areas of body fat may not go away on their own, even if you’re eating right and working out regularly. With liposuction we can permanently erase fatty tissues and make it easier to maintain a smoother, thinner body contour. It’s great for both male and female patients!

I always invite men (and women!) to come by my El Paso office for a complimentary consultation. I feel that it’s truly important to discuss the specific needs and expectations with each person, so that we can find the one best suited for their preferences. If you’re ready to get past the point of “just thinking about” cosmetic surgery, then call my office today!

Improve Your Appearance Following Weight Loss

Improve Your Appearance Following Weight LossMajor weight loss can simultaneously be the most triumphant and frustrating experience in your life. It is no small task to stick to your diet and exercise plan. Shedding those unwanted pounds and reaching your goal feels amazing. What doesn’t feel as great? Not having the body you envisioned at the start of your weight-loss journey. What keeps many men and women motivated through their weight loss is the idea of the new, fit body they will have achieved at the end of it all. However, this healthier, leaner you is often obstructed by excess, sagging skin. If you are frustrated with your appearance, body contouring to improve your appearance following major weight loss may be just what you need.

What Is Body Contouring?

Body contouring includes a set of select procedures that are designed to eliminate excess skin and fat to enhance your body’s physique. Each body contouring procedure is customized to the patient in order to target your trouble spots and highlight your body’s natural curvature. Possible treatments included as a part of body contouring are:

  • Tummy TuckAchieves a flatter, smoother abdomen by eliminating excess skin and tightening the abdominal muscles
  • LiposuctionRemoves excess fat to enhance slender curves in women and create better body definition in men and women
  • Lower Body LiftTargets sagging tissues around the hips, thighs, and buttocks for a slimmer, more toned lower body
  • Thigh LiftRemoves sagging thigh tissue for more toned legs and to eliminate painful chafing
  • Breast EnhancementsMay include a breast lift and/or breast augmentation to restore firmness, shape, and volume to drooping, deflated breasts
  • Arm LiftRemoves sagging arm tissue for firmer, slimmer arms

Why Choose Body Contouring?

Body Contouring Before and After PhotosMany people struggle to avoid surgery during their weight loss, while others undergo surgery and don’t desire to do it again. It can be disappointing for some that surgery is their only option. However, body contouring surgeries offer numerous benefits that often outweigh the drawbacks of surgery, including:

  • Permanent and precise removal of skin and fat
  • Elimination of painful skin irritations and chafing caused by excess folds of skin
  • Removal of stubborn fat deposits that resist diet and exercise
  • A stronger abdominal core
  • Enhancement of new, lean muscles
  • Customized procedures tailored to the patient’s needs

When Should I Consider Body Contouring?

Body contouring is often right for both men and women following major weight loss or for patients with large amounts of excess skin. Patients should be within their goal weight and should have maintained a stable weight for at least six months. Future weight loss or gain can affect the quality of body contouring surgery results. Some health conditions may prevent you from qualifying for body contouring, which will be discussed during your consultation.

If you are ready to reveal the new, fitter, and healthier you following weight loss, schedule your body contouring consultation with Dr. Agullo today. Contact our office at (915) 590-7900 or fill out our online contact form for additional information.

Is it Time to Trade in Your Breast Implants?

With all of the latest technological advancements in breast augmentation surgery and implants, many women are opting for the newest methods of augmentation. A great number of them are having their second, or even third, augmentation procedure.  Why? Because they want to take advantage of the newer shapes and different material from their original implants.

shutterstock_352067231The desire to change from their current implants (which may be perfectly fine) in order to utilize modern advancements to enhance their appearance is what we refer to as elective implant exchange.

Elective Implant Exchange in El Paso

Elective implant exchange procedures are most popular with those who have had augmentation within the last decade, as the technology behind the process has made the most advancement just within the past few years.

A change in material, size, and shape are what most women desire when they undergo the operation. A woman could switch to saline or silicone, a B to a D cup, or from a round shape to a more natural teardrop shape – just to give you a few ideas.

Gummy Bear Implant Options

The newest silicone inserts come in what has become known as “gummy bear” implants, due to their consistency being similar to the squishy candy. They’ve become highly desirable, as they are available in the new teardrop shape, which looks more anatomically correct. In fact, it has become the most requested item here in my El Paso office when a procedure is done to switch from saline implants, which are more prone to rippling, wrinkling, and leaking.

Voluma Silicone Implants

One of the implants I am most excited about are the new Voluma Natrelle implants by Allergan. These are similar to previous models but they have more filling within the outer shell. By doing this, they achieve a fuller, rounder breast with much less rippling.

Beware of Buyer’s Remorse

There are, of course, many reasons why a woman may want to switch out her implants. One of the more prevalent reasons is “buyer’s remorse”. While there does exist a clientele who will downsize their bust, the general population of this client segment is patients who wish they’d gotten a larger size implant from the very start. Besides a change in shape, size, or material, the lifespan of the implant itself plays an important role in having them replaced.

Follow Up is Important

Before and After Breast AugmentationOf course, implants are not considered to be lifelong devices. Annual checkups and MRI’s are crucial to maintain breast health and can reveal when it is time to have a replacement or other care procedure performed. There has been a slight decrease in breast augmentation procedures for new patients, but repeat patients who are having replacements done has increased significantly across the country.

The best idea is to be true to what you want from your implants. Trends will change with plastic surgery advancements, as with anything else. Larger breasts trended several years ago, and now seeming more natural, smaller, and streamlined is the ideal. Going with what you and your surgeon see as the best fit for your body will leave you with the best results, and happy until the time may come when your first pair of implants deserve retirement.

At my El Paso office, I work closely with each woman to ensure they choose the most appropriate type and size of implant from the very beginning. We want every patient at Southwest Plastic Surgery to enjoy results they can feel confident in!

Plans for Plastic Surgery After Baby

shutterstock_317534825Real women aren’t the only ones who get plastic surgery. It turns out that Kim Kardashian has treated herself to a full mommy makeover after the birth of her 2nd child. The curvy 35 year old didn’t want to waste any time getting her body back in shape after the birth of her son – and that meant getting some of the best plastic surgeons to help her.

No detail was left out, and it seems as if she had no hesitations or anxiety about going under the knife whatsoever!

So what is she likely to have had done for her mommy makeover?

Tummy Tuck

Having your tummy stretched out by a baby more than a time or two can wreak havoc on the abdominal wall muscles and the skin around your waist. Saggy skin may not be able to bounce back on its own, leaving “flab” or a “muffin top” behind, even after weight loss. Tummy tucks also help tighten up the muscle underneath, so it’s not just about handling excess skin.

Liposuction

Baby fat leftover in the hips, legs, and tummy are hard to erase with exercise alone. Contouring the area with liposuction or some other type of laser therapy can give you a toned, flatter abdomen. Most opt for traditional liposuction, as it permanently destroys fat cells and makes it easier to prevent fatty buildup from coming back.

Breast Augmentation or Lift

Before and After Breast LiftKim has always been obsessed with her body, and it’s no secret why. Her vivacious curves are the talk of the town and something that many women compare themselves to when they’re consider having surgery done on themselves.

Even with those great curves, she likely experienced some breast growth, stretching, and sagging during pregnancy. Women often do, whether or not they nurse may not even make a difference. Kim will probably had a bit of a lift done to add more fullness to her chest and avoid drooping or sagging when she hops back into a bathing suit this summer!

Cosmetic Surgery “Down There”

Do we know if Kim had a vaginal makeover? No. But plenty of women do after they give birth to a baby. Why? Because it tightens up the skin, makes things look more tidy down there, and reshapes the inner labia so that the stretched skin doesn’t rub inside of your clothes. A lot of women do it to feel more comfortable in bed, and some even report that it increases their stimulation.

After having a baby, every woman experiences changes that can impact them physically, athletically, socially, and emotionally. There’s no shame in doing something about it, either.

Women like Kim who gain 40 or 50 pounds during their pregnancy (she admitted just 6 weeks before her birth that she had already gained 52 pounds) truly have their work cut out for them. Even if they’re able to drop the weight through diet and exercise, it’s normal to consult a plastic surgeon to polish off the finishing touches.

Is 2016 the Year for a Trend in Smaller Breast Size?

shutterstock_272854151D-size breast implants may not be the latest trend this year. A survey of plastic surgeons showed that we’re actually seeing a trend in smaller, more naturally sized breasts.

Why? Likely because women want their breast augmentation process to look as realistic as possible. Women are opting for less-full chests, with saline implants now being filled on an average of about 234 cc’s.

Are Alternatives Better for Less Noticeable Differences?

Store bought pills and pumps won’t work when it comes to enlarging the breast tissue. One easy method that some women consider though is the “Instabreast” technique. Basically, it involves a small amount of sterile saline that is injected into the breast to offer you temporary enlargement. That way women can sort of try them out before they move forward with an actual surgical procedure. It’s not something that will last for very long, but it does allow for better visuals if you need a bit more time to consider what size is best.

Why are Women Opting for Smaller Chests?

If a woman is going to go through with having her breasts enlarged, the past way of thinking would have been something along the lines of “make it worth it,” that is, jumping several cup sizes up.

Now, ladies want something that’s noticeable yet natural looking at the same time. If it’s something they can’t get with just a bit of a padded bra under their blouse, they’re considering conservative sized breast implants.

“Test Drive” Your New Breast Size First

Breast Augmentation Before and AfterInstead of fussing with a bra, women can enjoy the natural, modest enhancement in whatever it is they’re wearing. But how can we make sure we’re not placing a breast implant that’s too small? It’s simple – using the Instabreast procedure for a real-life “test drive” of their new breast size before augmentation surgery. Very small amounts of saline are placed into the breast tissue (don’t worry – it’s completely safe!) so that women can see the size differences in real life before the surgery date. If the breasts are still too small, we can add more saline until we get it just right.

Utilizing the Instabreast procedure saves women from wanting to go back after augmentation surgery to revise the size of their implant. If you’re not comfortable with someone else’s recommendations when it comes to size, I feel that the Instabreast procedure is the perfect way to be sure you’re moving forward in the right direction.

They’re Perfectly Safe

Once your body naturally absorbs the saline, your breasts will return to their normal size. But while you are here in our office, you can see right in front of the mirror how their fullness, shape, and size begin to transform with the added volume.

If you’re hesitating to get breast implants because you’re worried about going too big or too small – then the Instabreast procedure is a perfect choice! Call my El Paso office today to schedule your consultation.

Designer Vaginal Surgery

The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery has seen a 49% increase in women that are choosing to customize their vagina through cosmetic surgery.

No, it’s not just women in the sex industry – women of all ages and backgrounds are choosing to enhance their private areas for comfort, athletic reasons, and even to feel more confident in the bedroom. It’s beginning to be one of the most common cosmetic procedures that women see me for here in my El Paso office.

What is a Designer Vagina?

So what is vaginal plastic surgery? It’s a cosmetic procedure where we correct the appearance of the labia, to reshape the size and appearance of the vagina. In many cases, women want to have a vaginoplasty to tighten their vagina, which has loosened due to age or after childbirth. Doing so can increase their confidence, appearance, and sexual pleasure. You might even wish you had done it sooner!

shutterstock_133834289Labiaplasties are another part of vaginal re-contouring. If you have uneven labia, such as extended (or stretched) labia minora that extend past the outer labia, it can cause several problems. Not only is it embarrassing, but many women find that they cannot wear the type of clothing they wish they could, or even participate in athletic activities without uncomfortable chafing and soreness.

Some women even find that by shortening their inner labia, they enjoy more pleasant intercourse and physical activities such as running or biking. Otherwise the longer labia interfere with stimulation, or become sore and chafed during athletics.

Wear Your Clothes With Confidence

Vaginal surgery isn’t just about looking great without your clothes on – it also includes the way you look and feel in them. Clothing choices have a huge impact on whether or not women come into my office for a vaginal makeover. Especially if rubbing, soreness, or uneven skin tissues are evident in their favorite clothes.

With yoga pants being all the rage (along with tight skinny jeans,) women need to look smooth and sleek in areas where the material tightly hugs against the skin. Enlarged labia can cause embarrassment or even prevent you from wearing tight athletic clothing in public.

How Much Does it Cost?

What’s the price tag on vaginal plastic surgery? A labiaplasty can range anywhere between three to eight thousand dollars. But the results are something that can make a huge impact on a woman’s day-to-day life. In fact, many women consider procedures “down there” as part of a mommy makeover or body recontouring.

I want each of my patients to know that the consultation process for a vaginal makeover is a private, comfortable experience. It’s my job to take your vision and make it a reality. When it comes to looking better in bed, feeling better during intercourse, or even comfortable during a bike ride – getting a designer vagina may be exactly what you need. Call my El Paso office today to schedule a consultation!
