Spiral Lift

Spiral Lift

One of the primary areas of concern for women who carry extra fat stores is the hips, buttocks, inner and outer thighs and trunk, which represents a vast majority of women. However, some women actually suffer from abnormalities which attribute to these issues, such as previous liposuction surgeries gone awry, losing an excessive amount of weight (either naturally or through gastric bypass surgery); or for patients with specific guitar or pear-shaped figures.

For plastic surgeons, these issues can be challenging. Lower body lifts, liposculpture, belt lipectomies or medical thigh lifts represent some of the solutions presented by a board-certified clinic, however, what works for one person does not work for everyone. Most plastic surgeons are familiar with inner and outer thighlifts; however one newer technique described by Dr. Agullo is called the “spiral lift”.

Aside from a couple of plastic surgery centers in Beverly Hills, CA and perhaps a couple of other hard-to-find locations, Southwest Plastic Surgery in El Paso, TX and Las Cruces, NM is one of the only plastic surgery centers in the US to offer the spiral lift technique. That may change down the road, but the experience of Dr. Frank Agullo, who is one of the country’s top plastic surgeons according to Castle Connolly and winner of numerous awards, will not.

What is a Thighlift Spiral Thighplasty?

This clever technique is used to reshape a woman’s inner and outer thighs, as well as the front and back. Most inner and outer thigh surgeries focus exclusively on the inner and outer thigh specifically, unless a vertical thighplasty technique is used in conjunction with the thighplasty. During the spiral lift procedure, an incision will be made across the groin creases where your thighs, buttocks and central area meet.

Spiral lifts are effective to correct deformities because they combine the methods of liposuction, removal of excess skin and tissue in the buttocks, flanks, thighs and lower abdomen. It is like a cross between a thigh lift, butt augmentation (without implants) and liposuction to achieve noticeable improvements in the upper legs circumferentially.

Preparing for Spiral Thighplasty Surgery and What to Expect

Before you go through a spiral thighlift procedure, you will need to come in for a consultation. Our board-certified, award winning Dr. Frank Agullo will discuss the spiral thighplasty with you ahead of time, as well as other possibilities. Everybody is different, so you may decide to do thighplasty or spiral thighplasty, depending on the goals you have in mind.

Before any surgery, you should be prepared. Get your affairs in order, take off a week or two from work, and if you have a job that requires a lot of sitting, you may need longer. This is something Dr. Agullo of Southwest Plastic Surgery in El Paso will talk to you about, as well. Preparation is key for adequate healing and recovery of spiral thighplasty.

If you smoke, make sure you stop smoking at least two weeks before and after the surgery to lessen the chance of complications, such as blood clots, poor circulation, longer healing, or even strokes. Get your home ready with plenty of gauze pads, a few old towels, and ice packs. Make sure you ask a friend or relative to drive you to and from the surgery. Spiral thighplasty requires general anesthesia, which will assist in your comfort while the doctor performs the surgery.

Right before you go into the surgery room, Dr. Agullo will make preoperative markings on your legs, buttocks, groin and lower abdomen. Rest assured that Dr. Agullo’s team does their best to ensure your comfort and discretion. He will likely use different colors to indicate which tissue will be excised, removed or vacuumed through the liposuction device for the cellulite.

The goal is to give you smoother, sexy legs. After you heal, you will feel much more confident in a bathing suit and your clothes will fit much better! Spiral thighplasty also falls into the category of body contouring.

At this time, less than a thousand patients have gone through with this procedure, so it is fairly new. However, out of all of the patients who have done spiral thighplasty, none of them have had any negative effects, such as infection or excess bleeding, etc. Everyone who has gone through with spiral thighplasty has been thrilled with the end result. You too, will likely fall into this category!

Recovering from Spiral Lift Surgery in TX and NM

As with any surgery, it does take time for your body to fully recover. Right after your surgery, you will be given time in the recovery room, where the caring staff at Southwest Plastic Surgery will closely monitor you. They will pamper you while under our care and do their best to give you a positive experience!

General anesthesia does make patients feel groggy, so avoid any heavy lifting, driving, operating any vehicles or things that require full mental capacity for at least 72 hours following your spiral lift. You may not feel hungry right away, but if you do, eat soft foods that are gentle on your stomach.

After a few weeks, you will notice a decrease in the swelling and soreness. You may feel like getting out and about after a few days, but remember that your body is still in a detrimental phase, so take it easy and do not overdo it.

Recovery can be quick or slow, depending on your body and your immune system. Take care of yourself and eat lots of fruits and veggies, and stay hydrated!
