Tummy Tuck Revision
Tummy tuck surgery is designed to enhance the contours of the abdomen and produce a firmer, more youthful aesthetic. However, sometimes the results of tummy tuck surgery (abdominoplasty) can be displeasing due to poor wound healing, technique, or physical changes following the surgery. Patients who are unhappy about the outcome of a previous abdominoplasty may be ideal candidates for tummy tuck revision.
- Feel self-conscious about the appearance of your abdomen?
- Have tummy tuck scars that are visible or raised?
- Struggle with excess fat that has developed after your initial tummy tuck surgery?
- Think your navel appears unnatural after a previous tummy tuck procedure?
- Struggle with a protruding abdomen even after an abdominoplasty?
- Still have full mons area after a tummy tuck?
- Need to have your tummy tuck revised after a pregnancy?
Reasons to Consider Tummy Tuck Revision
Dr. Agullo understands the importance of having an open and thorough discussion with each patient before developing a personalized surgical plan. During a private consultation, you will have the opportunity to communicate your concerns and health history with Dr. Agullo to achieve your cosmetic objectives.
Patients are typically advised to wait to undergo their initial tummy tuck until after they no longer plan on becoming pregnant. Subsequent pregnancies can alter or even reverse the effects of a tummy tuck surgery, which may necessitate a revision procedure to correct.
Surgical results can be unpredictable and vary by surgeon. Some patients who undergo a tummy tuck procedure are unsatisfied with the appearance of their navel, visible scarring, or overall abdominal contour. Tummy tuck revision can address these concerns and fine-tune the aesthetic of the abdomen.
Those who have experienced significant weight fluctuations may notice that the outcome of their original tummy tuck has been compromised. With tummy tuck revision surgery, newly accumulated fat deposits and excess skin can be removed to restore the abdominal aesthetic.
Tummy Tuck Revision Procedure
Tummy tuck revision surgery is an outpatient procedure performed with general anesthesia to ensure a comfortable and safe experience. When appropriate, the original incisions can be used to minimize the risk of additional scarring. Any excess tissue is removed, and liposuction may be performed to eliminate stubborn fat deposits. If the abdominal muscles are damaged, they can also be repaired before the incisions are closed.
Differences in Dr. Agullo’s Tummy Tucks
There is a reason why so many patients are on a waitlist for Dr. Agullo’s tummy tucks and revisions. Dr. Agullo has incorporated high attention to detail and artistry into his unique technique.
Dr. Agullo uses some of the most advanced techniques and technologies available to provide tighter contours and minimal scarring for his abdominoplasty patients.
Dr. Agullo employs circumferential liposuction on all his tummy tucks, even revisions. VASER® allows for the breakdown of the previous scarring for a smoother result and a “snatched” waist.
Dr. Agullo creates a permanent corset with your muscles using the triple plication technique to obtain a “Hollywood” waist.
Dr. Agullo prides himself in achieving ultra-low scars. They are usually lower than C-section scars and always below the mons hairline.
Designer Belly Button
Not every patient desires the same belly button. Some like it oval, others round, and some more elongated. Dr. Agullo will keep your wish in mind and hide the scar within your umbilicus.
Dr. Agullo will apply quilting sutures before finishing your procedure. This decreases the time the drains remain in place.
The mons area is often ignored by surgeons when performing a tummy tuck. Dr. Agullo performs aggressive liposuction in this area and when necessary, removes the excess fat bags in the mons area during his tummy tucks.
Say No to Pain
Extreme results don't have to be painful. Dr. Agullo applies a total abdominal block with EXPAREL®, which lasts up to 72 hours. Many patients report no pain after a tummy tuck, which is unheard of. We can’t promise this, but it certainly makes a difference.
Preparing for Your Surgery
Planning for your surgery in advance can help make your recovery go quickly and smoothly. Some general preparation guidelines include:
- Arrange for a relative or friend to transport you to and from the facility as well as assist you during the first 24 hours after your surgery. Most patients will need help for at least five days.
- Get all of the required paperwork and your ID ready the night before your procedure.
- Avoid eating or drinking after midnight on the day of your surgery.
- Refrain from applying any lotions or creams to your abdomen the day of your procedure.
- Quit the use of all tobacco products and blood thinning medications for at least two weeks before and after the scheduled procedure.
Tummy Tuck Revision FAQs
Most patients can resume working and their usual activities two to three weeks after surgery. However, strenuous exercises must be avoided for six to eight weeks to ensure optimal healing and the best possible results. Dr. Agullo will give you a recovery timeline that reflects your procedure during your consultation.
Patients typically do not experience significant complications after a tummy tuck revision procedure. However, all surgeries come with potential risks, such as:
- Visible scarring
- Poor wound healing
- Asymmetrical results
- Hematoma or seroma
- Adverse reaction to anesthesia
Although Dr. Agullo incorporates the quilting sutures used by other surgeons in the drainless tummy tuck technique, he doesn’t recommend proceeding without them. Since he performs more liposuction than most during a tummy tuck, there is a large amount of drainage that would otherwise build up under your skin and entail further procedures to remove, and it can compromise your results. The quilting sutures do decrease the amount of time the drains are to remain in place.
The average cost of tummy tuck revision surgery in El Paso ranges from $7,000 to $16,500. Several factors, such as the extent of correction and surgical fees, will affect the overall price. You will be given a cost estimate for your personalized procedure during your consultation.
Dr. Agullo’s approach to a tummy tuck is that of cutting no corners. This can often increase the cost of materials and anesthesia, but it also produces dramatic results. You can see for yourself in our photo gallery of before and after tummy tuck surgery. Many surgeons refuse to revise other doctors’ work. Dr. Agullo strongly believes that every patient has the right to the best versions of themselves and is happy to be part of that journey.
