While you can receive the most invigorating and rejuvenating skin treatments in the world at a luxurious medical spa, the truth is that skin care begins at home. By adopting a daily skin care regimen, you can complement your MedSpa results and keep your skin looking healthy and youthful.

Woman Moisturizing FaceYour Daily Regimen

Your daily skin care regimen should include several steps in both the morning and the evening. The following steps are recommended as a baseline that can be adapted for individual needs. Dr. Agullo and his professional MedSpa staff can recommend specific products that are best formulated for your skin care needs.

Morning

1. Cleanser

Cleansing your skin in the morning helps wash off dirt, dead skin cells, and allergens that may have transferred from your pillow to your face during the night. A gentle cleanser is best and should be rinsed off with warm water, then patted dry. There are different cleansers that best fit your skin care type. For example, a person with oily skin will need a purifying cleanser with salicylic acid to help control the oil, while a person with dry skin will need a hydrating cleanser to help naturally cleanse the skin.

2. Toner

Toner contains active ingredients that address specific skin issues. A good toner can remove oil and soothe and repair the skin, diminishing blemishes and inflammation. It also prepares your skin for the next part of your skin care regimen.

3. Eye Cream

The sensitive skin around the eyes is incredibly fragile and prone to dryness. With constant movement of the eyes and occasional squinting, it’s no surprise that crow’s feet, fine lines, and puffy bags under the eyes are typically among the first noticeable signs of aging. Eye cream addresses these issues by stimulating collagen formation and promoting skin elasticity.

4. Antioxidant

Antioxidants aren’t just found in blueberries and dark chocolate. In skin care products, antioxidants protect the skin by limiting the production of damaging free radicals. A good antioxidant can reduce signs of aging, calm inflamed skin, tighten and tone the skin, repair sun damage, and even reduce the appearance of scar tissue.

5. Moisturizer

Moisturizer is essential for all skin types, including oily ones. A good moisturizer can prevent wrinkles, smooth out already existing wrinkles, brighten your complexion, protect your skin against irritants, minimize acne breakouts, calm irritation and itchiness, and even help your makeup look more balanced and even. Dr. Agullo recommends SkinCeuticals Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2 as an excellent moisturizer made with ceramides, cholesterol, and fatty acids.

6. SPF

Even minimal sun exposure can ultimately lead to age spots and premature signs of aging. Daily sunscreen use protects your skin from sun damage. Many moisturizers and even makeup products contain SPF, which can help shorten your morning routine. This is good. However, most makeup and moisturizers only contain 15 to 20 percent SPF, so we recommend you use an extra SPF to obtain the maximum protection; 30 to 50 percent is what everyone needs to be using.

Evening

1. Cleanser

Your nightly cleansing regimen is even more important than your morning skin cleanse because your face has been exposed to makeup and environmental debris all day long. Carefully cleanse your skin with a gentle cleanser to remove all traces of dirt and makeup at the end of a long day.

2. Toner

Toner should always follow your cleanser because it goes the extra mile in removing oil and soothing the skin. Be sure to use it at night after you cleanse and in preparation for your anti-aging products.

3. Eye Cream

The delicate skin around your eyes can use all the help it can get to prevent premature aging. After the process of removing your eye makeup, soothe and repair the soft, thin skin around your eyes by gently applying your favorite eye cream.

4. Corrector

Correctors help fight age spots, hyperpigmentation, and other skin issues. NewBeauty magazine recently sought Dr. Agullo’s personal recommendation for a retinol corrector and quoted him in an online list of expert recommendations on retinols to buy. Dr. Agullo recommends SkinCeuticals Retinol 0.5 because it is time-released, mild on the skin, and less likely to cause redness or flushing as compared to other retinols.

5. Overnight Recovery Moisturizer

An overnight recovery moisturizer helps renew the skin and regenerate healthy skin while you sleep. Night recovery creams are the best way to close your daily skin care regimen and help you keep your skin healthy, young, and revitalized.
