September 02, 2026 | Mommy Makeover

Last month a patient sat across the room from me and said, “I do not even know what to ask for. I just want to feel like myself again.”
That is how 90 percent of mommy makeover conversations start, and it is the exact correct approach. A mommy makeover is not one single, rigid surgery. It is a personally tailored set of procedures, assembled to help a mother reclaim a body she feels herself in again, and creating that correct combination is most of the work I do.
What Actually Goes Into It
The core combines a tummy tuck with liposuction 360 all around the torso and some kind of breast surgery, a lift, a reduction with a lift, augmentation, or augmentation with a lift. We have branded it an “extreme mommy makeover” when patients choose to add fat transfer (BBL) to the buttock.
Who Can Do It
I like to treat patients who have finished having children, are at least six months postpartum, and a minimum of three months post-breastfeeding. Additionally, I seek a BMI under thirty-two, though I assess this on a case-by-case basis, as exceptions are made for specific body habituses.
Timing is important not just for the success of the surgery but for the longevity of your results.
Is It Actually Safe
No joke, I am asked this question all the time. I can see why. Performed correctly, yes, it is safe. I work with three to four of these a week, all done under general anesthesia, and they conclude in under six hours. My patients receive blood thinners, compression socks, and sequential compression devices and are up and walking the same day of their surgery. That combination is mandatory in my practice and is key to minimizing blood clot risks, and is an addition I refuse to waver on.
My Approach to the Breast Component
My most artistic work goes into refining the breasts for my mommy makeovers. Typically, implants are the way to go for increased size or upper pole fullness, but fat transfer can also sculpt the desired shape. If you are experiencing sagging, a standard anchor incision mastopexy (lift) is often the solution. Many patients do not need a full lift and, so long as the nipple is above the fold line, are delighted with the result of a smaller circumareolar lift, complemented by implants. Most of my patients are fitted with an internal bra of GalaFLEX or DuraSorb mesh for additional support.
My Tailoring of the Tummy Tuck
How do I decide? It is largely based on the extent of loose skin present.
- If you have minimal excess skin and stretch marks, a mini tummy tuck involves about a C-section-length scar.
- If you have more loose skin, you are the perfect candidate for a standard abdominoplasty.
- If the fold of your skin goes past your hips, you are looking at something along the lines of an extended abdominoplasty.
- If your loose skin loops all the way to your back with buttock sagging, a full circumferential body lift is the answer. The incision goes all the way around.
Liposuction usually covers the abdomen, lower back, upper back, and lateral chest, complemented with Renuvion J-Plasma skin tightening. The arms and inner thighs are usually treated with BodyTite to further tighten the skin. Often, a BBL or fat transfer can be performed at the same time if you are looking to fill in hip dips or increase projection of the buttock.
Lifetime of Results
The key to preserving the results of a mommy makeover is consistent weight management and no future pregnancies. On average, patients experience a weight reduction of five to ten pounds solely from the skin excision and liposuction. If properly maintained, results can last a long time.
One Misconception I Correct Most
The assumption I find most challenging to correct is that every mommy makeover follows a single, universal package, irrespective of individual needs. It simply does not happen that way. Until we have talked, examined the anatomy, and gone through your actual desired outcomes, I cannot finalize a plan.
