Rhinoplasty in Texas: Why Patients Cross the State (and the Border) for a Nose

I had a lady fly in from Seattle last month to have her nose job. The month before that, Dallas. A month before that was a girl from Dubai. I do not know, 80% of my patients nowadays are out of town. And you know what the most asked question is? Not about the surgery. The logistics.

Here is the guide every Texas patient needs: How to pick a surgeon for your rhinoplasty anywhere across Texas and how the process should go if the person you pick is not nearby.

How to Choose a Rhinoplasty Surgeon in Texas

Before picking anyone, choose someone you are going to be comfortable with. This is the person actually doing your rhinoplasty.

When you look at results from your potential doctor, review the before & after pictures for consistency. One good case can be luck; you want to see 20 or more. If possible, look at the pictures of results for people who share your same exact nose structure with the very same goals you have. If those results are pleasing to you, great. If not, keep looking.

Next, do a reputation check. Google Reviews will walk you through this, but even better is talking to one or two former patients.

Beyond that, there are absolutely non-negotiables. The plastic surgeon or ENT facial plastic surgeon has to be board certified and has specific experience with rhinoplasty surgery. The center needs to be accredited. And one needs to double-check those requirements. It can take 10 minutes, and that is the most valuable insurance on the face of this earth that you can buy.

Is There Anything Different About Rhinoplasty in Texas?

Honestly, no. The procedure is the procedure in any part of Texas from El Paso to Dallas to Houston.

I usually tell patients to remember this: You will be holed up recovering from rhinoplasty for about a week, minimum, once you are discharged. Might as well go to someplace you might actually enjoy visiting. You know, El Paso/Texas is a fun vacation destination, good food, sunshine and lots of new things outside your window. It will go down much better there.

Why Patients Travel to El Paso

Much of my work happens through satisfied patient word-of-mouth referral, as well as through extensive use of before-and-after photos and videos on social media. Patients who observe how I perform rhinoplasty surgery and view the consistent results obtained by other patients usually become more at ease with proceeding. I handle a high number of rhinoplasty cases and am constantly documenting and sharing before-and-after photos and videos on social media. Patients can comfortably view my prior work before contacting me.

The practice has gotten thousands of 5-star reviews. I am double board certified; we offer every facility you could need as an out-of-town patient, from the accredited surgery center right down to postop assistance.

I get referrals from patients coming all over TX/NM, but I get a good number from NY, WA, CA, FL. Also, I see several Canadians and get some international patients from as far away as Japan and Dubai.

How the Out-of-Town Process Works

It is been so streamlined. Now there is no need to come in until the week of surgery.

No, we can consult virtually. That consultation involves discussing the goals, going over some pictures of yourself, viewing any scans you may have done, planning out what kind of procedure you are looking to have. The simulated results can be virtual as well.

A coordinator is personally assigned to assist you at each stage: booking hotel accommodation, arranging follow-up nurse visits after surgery and booking follow-up doctor visits, which take place virtually in the privacy of your own home after your return. Focus only on recovering; they manage everything for you.

We publish all fees up front on our fees page, so you can calculate trip costs well in advance.

Ethnic Rhinoplasty: A Third of My Practice

Some 30-40% of nose jobs I perform are ethnic in nature, and the fact that my practice is in El Paso on the border with Mexico makes that diversity a strength of mine.

The primary objective of ethnic rhinoplasty is communication about desired outcomes and acceptable boundaries. Some patients might seek features that lean more toward a Western appearance, while others desire subtle enhancements that still preserve their racial heritage completely. Both are equally achievable and valid desires. Each necessitates a clear shared vision between us, the patient and me, prior to the operative procedure.

This is where the 3D simulation earns its keep. With VECTRA 3D and Crisalix, we adjust the image together: your preferences, what you do not like, and what we can realistically change. By the final version we are on exactly the same page, and in a bilingual practice the image itself eliminates language issues and communication barriers.

My Best Advice for Texas Patients

Do your homework on the doctor. Ask friends or family who have had nose surgery about their surgeons and how things went. Browse through the surgeon’s before/after pics on their web page.

While you are meeting with your potential surgeon, notice the rapport and chemistry. Rhinoplasty is not finished for a good 12 months; your swelling will settle slowly and you will likely have numerous follow-up appointments throughout this time, which will allow you to see the results in stages, check the swelling and shape, and ensure you can connect and confide in your chosen professional. You will feel more comfortable with surgery knowing that if something is concerning down the road, be it normal post-rhinoplasty drainage or a first surgery elsewhere that needs a revision consultation, your surgeon is someone you can trust with the questions.

Choose someone you would be glad to see twelve times.
