Breast Revision in El Paso, TX

Breast augmentation is a highly personal experience that must be carried out with meticulous care and attention to detail. However, when the outcome is not as planned, or breast implants become damaged, a patient can feel disappointed and self-conscious about her bustline. If you have undergone breast augmentation surgery before and are unhappy with your results, you may want to consider breast revision.

What Are the Benefits of a Breast Revision?

Breast revision is performed on women who:

  • Suffer from capsular contracture, implant displacement, or implant rupture
  • Experience implant rippling
  • Continue to have or developed significant asymmetry
  • Feel dissatisfied with their breast shape or size after their initial breast augmentation
  • Have noticeable scarring from a previous breast surgery
  • Carry the burden of uncomfortable or painful breast implants

Dr. Agullo has helped hundreds of women correct the disappointing aftermath of breast augmentation and finally achieve the beautiful breasts they desire. At your initial consultation, you and Dr. Agullo will discuss your goals and expectations to arrive at the best surgical plan.

Am I a Candidate For a Breast Revision?

A breast revision is a secondary breast surgery performed only on women who have previously had a breast augmentation.

Women interested in a breast revision:

  • Are in good overall health
  • Do not smoke
  • Do not have any preexisting medical conditions that could impact healing
  • Have waited at least six months after their breast augmentation
  • Have realistic expectations of your results

What Is Discussed During My Breast Revision Consultation?

During your consultation, Dr. Agullo will:

  • Discuss your wishes and expectations for your results
  • Evaluate your breasts and determine the best course of treatment
  • Take measurements and photos
  • Explain how to prepare for your breast revision

Be sure to share any concerns you may have during your consultation. This will help Dr. Agullo to determine your candidacy and give you advice for your treatment.

What Does My Breast Revision Include?

The corrections made during your breast revision will depend on your individual goals and the results you wish to achieve. A breast revision can include:

Implant Exchange

Patients will often exchange saline implants for silicone implants during breast revision surgery because silicone produces a more natural look and feel. Some patients decide to get larger or smaller implants, depending on their personal preferences.

Implant Placement

Subpectoral implant placement involves placing the implants underneath the pectoral muscles, producing a more natural breast slope. It is also believed that subpectoral implant placement is less likely to lead to complications, such as capsular contracture.

Internal Bra

In many cases where the breast tissue is compromised, reinforcement of the breasts is necessary. Dr. Agullo uses a tissue scaffold to fortify thin breast tissue, resulting in a lower risk of capsular contracture and implant displacement.

Breast Lift

Patients who experience significant drooping of the breasts after augmentation may require a breast lift surgery during revision for optimal results. Breast lift surgery is often recommended for patients who decide to get smaller implants.

Fat Injections

Fat injections can help place volume in certain areas with a high degree of control. They are often used to thicken tissue in order to decrease implant visibility or palpability. It is also a great tool to enhance cleavage in patients with a naturally wide gap.

At Agullo Plastic Surgery, tailored care begins with a full consultation to discuss the goals and options available.

What Can Breast Revision Adjust?

If you are adjusting the implants’ characteristics, you can choose from the options below for your new set.

Implant Type

Because there are various kinds of breast implants available, this procedure can be entirely personalized. Dr. Agullo will help you determine the best implant type and size for your breast revision surgery based on your concerns, desires, and body type.

Saline Implants:

  • Can adjust size as needed
  • Are cost-effective
  • Are ideal for creating a prominent breast profile

Silicone Implants:

  • Have a more natural look and feel
  • Are more lightweight than saline implants
  • Are less likely to ripple, rupture, or leak

Gummy Bear Implants:

  • Are still silicone implants, but have a more cohesive gel
  • Produce uniform contours, which translates into less chance of rippling and palpability
  • Ideal for patients who are thin, petite, or desire a significant change in size

How Should I Prepare for My Breast Revision?

Proper planning and preparation can help you have a quicker and smoother recovery process. To prepare for your surgery, you should:

  • Line up a family member or friend to drive you home after your procedure
  • Ensure you have your paperwork and your ID
  • Don’t eat or drink after midnight the day of your scheduled procedure
  • Don’t use lotions, creams, or makeup on your skin the day of your procedure
  • Wear a loose-fitting shirt that buttons up because it may be difficult to slip one over your head after the procedure
  • Stop smoking for at least two weeks before your surgery and two weeks after to lower your risk of blood clots and other complications
  • Don’t take medication that will thin your blood for two weeks before your procedure

What Are Your Concerns?

What Can I Expect During My Breast Revision Recovery?

After surgery, you will need plenty of rest. However, it is essential to walk around throughout the day to boost circulation and prevent blood clots. You may experience some discomfort, which can be alleviated with medication prescribed by Dr. Agullo. A special bra will be provided for you to wear day and night, as you must not wear an underwire or padded bra for the months following the procedure. Avoid heavy lifting and vigorous exercise for at least four weeks. Most people resume light activities in a week.

Is Breast Revision Painful?

General anesthesia will be used to help ensure your comfort during the procedure. Dr. Agullo performs a “rib-block” with EXPAREL®. This maneuver blocks the breast pain receptors with a local anesthetic that lasts for three days. Following the procedure, it is likely that you will experience some bruising, swelling, and soreness. Prescription medication may be used to handle pain after surgery.

Will My Breast Revision Leave Scars?

Breast revision incisions are usually made in the same place that they were during your breast augmentation. Reopening the scarred tissue may cause some additional scarring, but Dr. Agullo takes great care to help ensure that incisions are made to be discreet and heal well after surgery. Topical scar cream may be able to help if there is excessive scarring.

When Will I See My Breast Revision Results?

Your breast revision results will be visible immediately after your procedure and will continue to develop as you heal. There will be some bruising and swelling, and your final results will be most visible once this has subsided.

What Are Some Frequently Asked Questions About Breast Revision?

Where will my breast revision incisions be?

  • Periareolar incisions encircle the areolas.
  • Axillary incisions are located within the armpit.
What are the risks associated with breast revision surgery?

Significant complications from breast revision surgery are uncommon. However, any surgery comes with potential risks, which may include:

What is used for breast tissue reinforcement?

Dr. Agullo uses a few different tissue scaffolds, depending on your particular needs and indications. You might have heard about breast tissue reinforcement as an “internal bra” or “internal push-up bra.” Most commonly, he uses GalaForm3D, GalaShape, or GalaFlex. These products not only strengthen weakened or thinned breast tissue, but they also promote cell regeneration for lasting enhancement. These scaffolds are biologically derived and bioabsorbable, so they are replaced by your own body’s collagen over a two year period.
