Internal Silk Corsets Can Define Waistline

December 30, 2014 | Abdominoplasty

Southwest Plastic Surgery of El Paso, TX always likes to stay ahead of the game when it comes to breakthrough innovations, tools and techniques. Although still new to the plastic surgery industry, the internal silk corset is yet another valuable tool we can apply to certain patients who need it. Although it is most popularly used for breast augmentations and mastectomies, the SERI biosilk can also be beneficial for abdominoplasties.

Particularly in patients with very loose skin, either from a major weight gain or loss, hernia operations, or who are getting a tummy tuck post-pregnancy, the SERI silk scaffold can enhance tissue support and help to achieve a more desirable outcome with a better. The FDA approved silk is worn internally, and it works much like an internal silk corset. It is very safe and cA woman with a slender waist in a grey sweater with her fists in the air in triumphomfortable. Patients don’t even notice it there, except for the extra support.

Dr. Agullo of Southwest Plastic Surgery says, “From what I have seen, the SERI silk corset helps to create a long-lasting waistline and greater degree of abdominal firmness and flatness.”

Longer lasting sounds good, but there are some instances where the SERI silk scaffold corset is not necessary. Younger patients, for example may already have enough skin tissue and elasticity to heal without SERI corsets for an abdominoplasty.

On the other hand, Mommy Makeovers and Tummy Tucks may be one of the more popular procedures at Southwest Plastic Surgery and across the country. For these types of surgeries, the abdominal corset can lessen the chances for modifications. The silk is worn internally and dissolves over an eighteen to twenty-four month period of time as the body substitutes it with strong collagen.
