What Are the Differences Between a Thread Facelift and a Traditional Facelift?

February 01, 2021 | Facelift, Thread Lift

2 Minute Read:

With more cosmetic options surfacing each year, the average person can become overwhelmed looking for a simple solution to their pesky signs of aging. Luckily, effective minimally invasive options like the thread lift are becoming popular choices for those not ready to commit to full facelift surgery.

So, do you qualify for a less invasive procedure?

Sagging skin, jowls, and excess skin in areas like the neck can be addressed with a thread lift or a traditional facelift. However, there are more differences between these two treatments than you think.

Do Thread Lifts Have a Faster Recovery Time Than Facelifts?

Non-surgical and minimally invasive treatments are always going to be more time-efficient than surgical procedures.

This is especially the case with thread facelifts (Silhouette Instalift®), as this technique uses temporary sutures that dissolve safely into the skin. Even more convenient, thread lifts are a “one and done” treatment that won’t require extensive recovery instructions.

Having a sexy night on the town or taking that saucy Instagram photo can be accomplished just one week after treatment!

Unfortunately, facelift surgery does not offer the same convenience. Scalpels, longer incisions across the hairline, and stitches that require removal are factors that—for some patients—make the recovery time feel daunting.

If you are impatient and can’t wait to get out and about with your daily activities, a surgical facelift may not be for you.

Are Thread Lifts Just as Good as Facelifts?

As the name suggests, thread lifts produce a subtle but visible lift in the skin but cannot produce as dramatic a lift to the face as facelift surgery. This is because part of a thread lift’s approach to correcting aging signs is promoting collagen production—which takes time.

Facelifts take a much more “hands-on” approach in that they require the actual lifting and repositioning of underlying muscle, fat, and skin. Facelifts are great for those that need to take on more severe aging signs, like the dreaded “turkey wattle” under the chin or intense sagging around the cheeks, jowls, and neck. If thread lifts were a soft tissue massage, then facelifts would be a deep tissue massage!

Another advantage facelifts have over thread lifts is their longevity. While they won’t stop you from aging, facelifts are designed to last for many years.
