QuantumRF in El Paso: Why I Bought a Fourth Skin-Tightening Device, and When I Pick It

October 06, 2026 | Body Contouring, Liposuction, Plastic Surgery News

A woman in a white tank top and jeans standing beside an orange exam chair in a grey consultation room with lip art on the wall, one hand resting at her waist. Illustrative image, not a patient. Frank Agullo, MD, FACS, El Paso, Texas.

I already own three skin-tightening devices. Last month I bought a fourth.

Patients ask me why. Fair question. The honest answer starts with what liposuction cannot do.

“Before radiofrequency, the only skin tightening we would see was from some fibrosis created after liposuction or VASER treatments, but it wasn’t truly skin tightening.”

Fibrosis is scar tissue, and scar pulls in wherever it happens to form, which is not where you want it. So for years the answer to “will my skin tighten after lipo” was a shrug.

“Since I’ve been using radiofrequency treatments, we’ve had better and better results in body contouring.”

QuantumRF is where that has taken me so far.

Body Contouring Is Not Fat Removal

“Body contouring is not just about removing fat. It is about shaping and tightening the skin for better overall 360-degree contours, and even muscle enhancement.”

I say a version of that in nearly every liposuction consult, because patients come in thinking about the fat and leave thinking about the skin, which is the right order to learn it in.

Four Devices, Four Layers

Every radiofrequency device heats tissue so it contracts. The difference is where the heat goes. Here is how I think about the four I use, in my own words from the dictation that became this post:

Device Where it works How I use it
Morpheus8 “the superior layers of the skin, dermis, and subcutaneous tissue” Surface texture and tone; med spa and operating room
BodyTite “the external skin and the internal fat as a bipolar radiofrequency device” Arms, inner thighs, thinner skin
Renuvion J-Plasma “the subcutaneous tissue, the tissue below the skin, with radiofrequency and helium plasma” Abdomen, back, flanks after liposuction, since 2019
QuantumRF “the deep subcutaneous tissue and skin, creating contracture using higher delivery powers in a safe fashion” The strongest contraction I have seen; my first pick

“So far, I have been very happy with BodyTite and Renuvion J-Plasma.” I still use both every week. I wrote about Renuvion J-Plasma and the 3,508-patient study behind it, and BodyTite is in my radiofrequency overview. Neither is going anywhere.

But a patient asked me the question I ask myself. One device. Which one?

“If I had to pick just one, I would pick QuantumRF over all the other devices, mainly because it delivers more power, and does so much faster, in a safe and controlled fashion.”

“So far, we’ve seen far greater contracture with QuantumRF than with any other device.”

Who Is the QuantumRF Patient

The patient who has lost volume and kept the skin. After pregnancy. After weight loss. After liposuction itself.

“Overall, I always recommend skin tightening after liposuction, because liposuction itself is emptying out the tissue, but leaving the skin envelope looser than before, since the volume is not there to stretch it out. Delivering radiofrequency will create contracture, which will give us smoother results.”

Read that again if you are shopping liposuction on price alone. The fat comes out either way. What the skin does afterward is the part you live with.

“With QuantumRF, we see far greater tightening of the skin, which will provide better results in many patients after weight loss and pregnancy.”

Who Still Needs a Tummy Tuck

No device replaces excision when the skin is already damaged. I say this in every consult, and I will say it here before anyone books on hope.

“Massive weight loss patients may not be candidates. If we see a lot of stretch marks on the skin, or large folds with loss of collagen and dermal tears, the likelihood that the skin will contract is lower, and this would require excisional plastic surgery procedures.”

A stretch mark is a tear in the dermis, and heat does not repair a tear. When I pinch a fold on the abdomen and it hangs instead of springing back, we talk about a tummy tuck, and my post on timing body contouring after weight loss says when.

What the Treatment Looks Like

QuantumRF goes under the skin, not on it. That is the point.

“It is performed through a small incision, about four millimeters, the same incision we use for liposuction. The probe is inserted through the incision on a long cannula, and the radiofrequency treats the tissues under the skin.”

“More often than not, we’re performing it with liposuction, if we want to remove some excess volume in those areas.” It can also stand alone when the volume is already right and only the skin is loose.

Then the part patients do not expect: you can hear it work.

“As we’re delivering the energy during the surgery, we actually hear the fat and the connective tissue crackle, which translates into contraction we can visualize immediately.”

When the Tightening Shows

Roughly in thirds.

“About 30% of the contracture is seen right away during the procedure. Another 30% occurs in the first one to two weeks, and the final third occurs toward the two-month mark.”

So the skin on the table is not the final skin, and the skin at week one is not either. Judge it at two months.

Recovery

“Recovery is the same as with traditional liposuction without radiofrequency. It’s usually five days to get back to normal, easygoing activity, and as soon as two weeks to return to exercise. Lymphatic massages are still recommended, as are compression garments.”

One session, under IV sedation or general anesthesia, outpatient. “It can be repeated in future procedures if further skin tightening is wanted.”

What It Costs

As of this writing, I price radiofrequency skin tightening by body area, and the number is the same whichever device I use. Large areas such as the abdomen or back start at $2,000. Intermediate areas such as the arms, thighs or lateral chest start at $1,500. Small areas such as the mons or the axilla start at $1,000. In my words from the dictation that became this post: “This is the fee for the radiofrequency treatment itself. It can be added on to liposuction, or if no liposuction is performed, it is the standalone price.”

The current numbers live on my fees page, with the rest of a liposuction quote explained in the lipo and tummy tuck cost post. An exact quote can only be provided after a consultation.

Why Choose Dr. Agullo

Double board-certified, by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. Mayo Clinic plastic surgery fellowship. Clinical Associate Professor of Plastic Surgery at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Castle Connolly Top Doctor for 13 consecutive years. I started with Renuvion J-Plasma in 2019 as one of its early adopters, and Apyx Medical counts me among its ten highest-volume users in the world. Because all four devices sit in one office, I pick by your skin and not by whatever machine I happen to own.
